Interview with Teresa

Why do you specialize in working with women going through personal crises or transitions?
First of all, I learned firsthand how powerful a time this can be for a woman. When I went through my divorce, after 20 years of marriage and two kids, I was brought to my knees. With all the work that I’d done in working with energy, herbs, holistic health, meditation, visualizations, and self help, I was still left without the “blueprint” to handle the way my entire life had been upended. I couldn’t intellectualize this one, either!  I was on emotional overload – I described it as feeling as if I had “no skin”, and I was so fearful of the future. I worried about my daughters constantly, what I would do for money, where I would gain strength.  Would I ever meet someone new and have a relationship?

I figured out a way to get myself, first over the hump of being emotionally overwhelmed, then amazingly, to a place of true transformation. But it took a lot of tears and emotional sweat, and I learned the hard way how not to do it! My goal is to help women harness the energy that is inevitable when at a turning point in their life, and re-purpose that energy to discover inner wisdom and strength, and to get to that place of transformation in as short a period of time as possible. I’ve created real tools and a true blueprint on how to recover – then, to truly thrive, and redefine their lives by their terms, and with renewed confidence and power. The key piece is listening to your inner voice, what I like to call that “female genius” who lives inside.

The other real issue is that these transitions can be lonely times. I know from experience. Your friends get tired of it. Your family doesn’t know what to do and they hate to see their daughter/sister/cousin/niece in such a struggle, you don’t tell anyone at work – all of which makes it a stressful and lonely time. I want to help women feel they have a safety net, and a path. I learned how to move through this, and I know that you can too. Having someone there who really believes that, respects your decisions and supports you in your future goals is HUGE.

What’s your life like now?

What I live now is a transformed inner world, where I wake up happy and joyful, virtually every day. Seriously. I never imagined, when I was in a puddle on the floor and my world was a mess, that I could ever feel this kind of true happiness and contentment. I am remarried to the love of my life, and we have a very good life. All kids (his and mine) are thrilled, even the dogs are happy! I shifted my career over to doing what I love and what I do best. When you do what you love, love who you’re with, and your kids are happy and thriving, what’s not to be happy about?  I listened to my “female genius” who was calling to me, no, yelling at me, to see how to shift and what to do next.  Now, I play pretty close attention to that voice!

What kinds of personal “crises” are you talking about?

Often, it’s women going through a divorce or separation, but it’s also women who are experiencing an empty nest, changing careers (either by choice or by force), or women struggling with reproductive changes: whether it be infertility or how a baby changes their life – things like that. What these situations have in common is that a woman’s life feels “up-ended” and a big chunk of how she had been defining herself is changing.  I think one of the reasons I attract a lot of women experiencing divorce is because of my own personal transformation through the divorce process.

Going through these personal crises means looking at who you are on the inside, now that your external roles may be changing. You may no longer be a wife – what does that mean to you? How about redefining your family? Women have so many concerns about their kids during these times. It’s also about letting go – whether it be of the “intact” family or of the kids as they leave and go off to college. If your kids are leaving, you’re still a mother, but your role is changing – AND, what do you do with all this mother energy that has no place to go? REDIRECT it. I’m a huge proponent of capitalizing on the enormous amount of energy around these experiences, and finding a place to re-purpose it. It’s kind of like we’re recycling your own energy! into creating a new life for yourself.

How did you come to create the concept of healthybeing? What’s your background?
I have a very interesting history in working with women in all realms of mind, body and spirit medicine.  I am currently a life coach for women, but I’ve been in women’s healthcare for more than 20 years, and for the last ten, as an acupuncturist and herbalist with a specialty in women’s medicine. I’ve been a childbirth educator, doula, and owned two wellness centers. For many years I personally worked with energy healers and studied energy, yoga and shamanism. Along the way, of course, I developed my own inner wisdom. When I finally began owning my own “gifts”,  and really listening to my female genius who was whispering (and yes, at times, yelling), I decided it was time to combine all of my background and knowledge, and offer a “complete package” of what I’ve learned in my life, to women going through the same kind of transformational crisis that I went through.

One of the things I take pride in is the way my work crosses most socio-economic backgrounds. I am not some “out there” or “woo-woo” kind of person, but have tapped into a lot of alternative and holistic modalities that I find a real need for, and that people in all walks of life can relate to, or at least open to. These methods are pretty proven.  For instance, I write a lot of visualizations for women. I don’t write them just because they “feel good,” I write them because they work! Because the brain can’t really differentiate between a real or imagined thought. With all the interest and work in neuroplastisity, (which is how a brain can change in its function and even structure in relation to external stimulus) and there’s actually a real reason why these things work, and I like that!  Let me just add that not everything I do is “outside the box!” It’s a nice marriage of both traditional and non-traditional methods – but they all work!

What kind of women is your work right for?
I work with open-minded, smart women who are ready to make a change – and who are willing to learn about their own power and gifts. These are women who aren’t afraid of taking a good honest look inside at what got them to this crisis, and what needs to change. I love working with women who are able to take a step back from themselves and see where they’ve been getting stuck, and who are prepared to do the work, to get themselves, “unstuck!”  These are women who are willing to change their mindset, in order to manifest unbelievable abundance, change and true joy they’d forgotten could be experienced.

The women I work with tend to be women from many walks of life – They are business owners, corporate, stay at home moms, part-time workers also taking care of children, single women going through big transitions. The most important element is honest introspection and willingness to change and be open-minded. You have to love yourself enough to be willing to invest in yourself.

What kind of women would not do well with this kind of work?

There is no use attempting this work if you don’t want to change things!  Women who think they have all the answers and yet are struggling, are in a state of denial. (please, though, understand that I do believe you have all the answers inside of you…you’re just not aware of them yet!) The woman who insists on continuing to do the same thing to get different results is not a good match, either.  Another type of woman I will gently suggest go elsewhere is the woman who is a chronic whiner and complainer, or who makes excuses for not doing the work, or not showing up. I have a firm belief in “how you do anything is how you do everything.”  I am happy to work with women who are ready to live their life to the fullest and just don’t know how, but not women who think they have all the answers but are really unhappy and unwilling to change. It would not be fair to charge you money for my program because you won’t get the results I am talking about and, we just won’t be a good match for each other. Does that sound fair?

What do women get out of working with you? What are some tangible results?

The women I’ve worked with have found my programs help them grow enormously in all aspects of their life. They get clarity on where they want to go and it gives them the steps for making big changes.  They learn to manifest just what they want in their life!  They gain confidence and understand why they are worth investing in themselves in this way. –  They start to see results immediately! The initial feelings are of relief and hope, that there are ways out of the emotional jumble, and then excitement as they see their future unfold. Watching women experience that is the most rewarding part of my job.

In the initial period of working with me, we get you out of panic or feeling ruled by your emotions and into knowing you have more of a sense of “control”, with real tools.  We assess what your natural emotional default tendency is, (the messages you send to yourself and the world!) and work toward elevating your energy levels and awareness. (It’s a mind blowing experience to see how you’ve been operating until now.) Then, once you start moving out of what I call the “lower energy levels”, you start manifesting big time because the Universe (and your subconscious) hears your call to action of I’m “drawing the line in the sand” and I’m not going to live this way any longer…and it starts giving you what you are asking for, starting NOW.  (But you still have to do the work!)

Next, you start to develop ideas for your future, and create goals. You can take small steps, but sometimes you’ll take bigger leaps, all to move into the life you’ve always wanted.  It’s very exciting!

What if I am truly lost, and don’t know where I want  to go? or what to do?

If you just don’t know exactly where you want to go, but have a sense that something is “off” then we identify what is “off” and move toward knowing what you want. Sometimes the emotions cloud your will and inner knowing.

You don’t have to know where to begin. That’s why you’re hiring me!  There’s actually a system to figuring it out! so that you know where to focus your energies and decide on next steps.  We are constantly working with building that deep inner wisdom, that female genius, that I know you have. It’s buried underneath the fear, feeling “less than”, and/or anger or other emotions.

What if I feel like I am  moving in the right direction, am well past the point of the initial crisis, but still unclear as to “next steps” and moving into real joy?

Then we should talk! because you are so close to finding true joy! You can step into this program at any point of your evolution.  You don’t have to be in a state of real suffering, you just need to be in “transition.”  Transitions provide enormous fuel for change – if there’s anything in your life you want to change, we can work with that to get you to jump into the next phase of your life with joy and positive expectation!

What if I really don’t have the confidence that I can transform my life?

Self esteem issues? There are real tools for building that – and gaining confidence. Once you get that, you start exercising that “muscle”, until that becomes more of your default, as compared to where you started. We will go as quickly or as slowly as you feel comfortable. As long as there is movement, you’re doing ok! Initially, a lot of women feel that way, especially if old issues have been triggered, like abandonment or a poor self image.  We look at your belief systems, and you rewrite them so that they are working for you and building you up.

This work makes the next phase of making life decisions, much easier. You come to it with knowledge AND commitment to your new goals.

What is your “style”? In other words, what can I expect when we start working together?

What I do best is hold safe and peaceful space for women to get clear and confident in who they are and where they’re going. There is no judgment! I am very easy to talk to (even taxi drivers tell me their life stories!)  I hold your hand, while giving you the tools to work through it, and you learn to tap into your inner wisdom and knowing – and take steps you didn’t realize you were capable of taking, and perhaps didn’t even know you wanted to take! I’m really good at zeroing in on next steps, and empowering you to take them.

I do this work with love, but with gentle directness.

What exactly can I expect to be doing:

It will depend on where you are in the cycle of change, but basically, I start everyone, with the “be-factor” assessment. This is a tool, developed by Bruce Schneider, which is one of the most powerful catalysts for change I have ever encountered in all this work I’ve done. It is an online assessment that takes about 20-30 minutes. We then have a phone “debrief” of the results, which lasts about an hour. This assessment shows us where your energy is on a daily basis. Basically, it shows you how you “show up” in life. This is a real eye-opener for most women.

Once we know this information, we use this to navigate change in your life. I have steps that I take everyone through, but it depends on where you are in your process, and which package you choose. We have conversations by phone, about once a week. We talk about where you are, what has been working, what hasn’t, and we come up with a plan for where you’d like to go next.

I have a lot of tools to share with you. Sometimes I’ll send you a “homework assignment” to do before our next call.  Other times, we’ll work through things on the phone – and then you’ll get a homework assignment! (there’s always homework! but this is fun homework that opens your eyes, mind and spirit to your potential and helps you take the steps you need to transform yourself.)

At a certain point in time, depending on which program you choose, I will create a personalized visualization for you to download to your mp3 player that you can listen to daily. This will utilize specific items we’ve talked about to help reinforce the learning and your progress. (women love these!) It’s a great way to learn relaxation and stress reduction, along with reinforcing your progress!

Based on what I’ve read, Teresa, I am ready to get started working with you and changing my life! What are my next steps?
